In my first sketch you can see that I was inspired by the original cover’s iconography and motif. Wings, hands, cosmic electricity… Feeling that the original was lacking memorable character, I expanded on the wings and created the big blue bird. The color of the bird came about because of the way it vibrates with the background red. It is hard to capture in photos but the Bird really pops off.
I love the idea of the floating hands as they are a common feature in my work. I was very excited about the goat and the Om hands representing heaven & hell, morality, balance. Is the death of this bird necessary for the life of this forest? Nature says yes. The cosmic icons of the original give me duality vibes… hence the Yin Yang comparison. The blood drips evolved into tiny trees after I had this duality revelation… My art is 90’s Emo, cut me some slack on the Art School statements.
